MONTREAL — In an over-the-top accent, one half of a notorious Quebec comedy duo claims to be the president of France as he describes sex with his famous wife, the joy of killing animals and Hustler magazine's latest Sarah Palin porno spoof.

Throughout the call, which was making the rounds in U.S. political circles by day's end Saturday, Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the perils of going hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

"Maybe in eight years," she replies with a nervous chuckle.

Finally, he mentions a notorious Hustler video titled "Nailin' Paylin," describing it as "the documentary they made on your life."

"Oh, good, thank you, yes," Palin replies.

The Masked Avengers, a radio pairing notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state, notched its latest victory Saturday when it released a recording of a six-minute call with Palin, who thought she was talking with Nicolas Sarkozy.

Obama as Oxymoron

He's a liberal and a conservative

Hendrik Hertzberg met Jeffrey Hart in 1980 when they debated at Rockland Community College as proxies for their bosses, President Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, respectively. Now Hertzberg writes for The New Yorker and they’re on the same side, as Hart came out as an Obamacon in The Daily Beast. Hart supports Obama for behaving like a conservative by opposing wars that a lack clear rationale. “He’s opposed to dumb conservatives. Substituting ‘liberals’ for ‘conservatives,’” Hertzberg writes, “I concur.”

Microbes: Fuel of the Future?

Mining new fuel sources is also about a "new money" source.

A reddish microbe found on the inside of a tree at a secret location in the rain forests of northern Patagonia could unlock the biofuel of the future, say scientists.

Its potential is so startling that the discoverers have coined the term "myco-diesel" -- a derivation of the word for fungus -- to describe the bouquet of hydrocarbons that it breathes.

"This is the only organism that has ever been shown to produce such an important combination of fuel substances," said Gary Strobel, a professor of biology at Montana State University.

"The fungus can even make these diesel compounds from cellulose, which would make it a better source of biofuel that anything we use at the moment."

The study appears on Tuesday in a peer-reviewed British journal Microbiology.

Strobel, a 70-year-old veteran of the world's rain forests, said that he came across Gliocladium roseum thanks to "two cases of serendipity."

Democratic Overreach Watch

Fair and Balanced - sounds good.

It's the Republican Party's ultimate nightmare—an ascendant Democratic Party re-enacts the long dead "fairness doctrine" on radio, which for decades required stations to provide equal amounts of time to liberal and conservative viewpoints. In an interview on FOX News yesterday, Chuck Schumer said, "I think we should all be fair and balanced, don't you?" and suggested that conservatives who oppose the fairness doctrine while calling for stricter controls on adult content on TV were hypocritical. Since the doctrine was abolished in 1987, right-wing radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage have built broadcasting empires while liberal shows have struggled to stay afloat. A push by Democrats to return to the old days would spark an apocalyptic battle in Congress, potentially slowing an Obama administration's ambitious legislative agenda to a crawl.

The Art of Now: Six Steps to Living in the Moment

Take a head break!
the last two, leaving... (Challenge:
"We're living in a world that contributes in a major way to mental fragmentation, disintegration, distraction, decoherence," says Buddhist scholar B. Alan Wallace.
We dwell on intrusive memories of the past or fret about what may or may not happen in the future
Most of us don't undertake our thoughts in awareness. Rather, our thoughts control us
"Ordinary thoughts course through our mind like a deafening waterfall," writes Jon Kabat-Zinn
You can become mindful at any moment just by paying attention to your immediate experience.
Think of yourself as an eternal witness, and just observe the moment

2: To avoid worrying about the future, focus on the present (savoring).
3: If you want a future with your significant other, inhabit the present (breathe).
4: To make the most of time, lose track of it (flow).
5: If something is bothering you, move toward it rather than away
from it (acceptance).

Are the baby boomers to blame for our current economic problems?

Change is coming..real soon.
The Baby Boom Generation will never be mistaken for the Greatest Generation that survived the Great Depression and defeated evil in a World War that killed 72 million people. I hate to tell you Boomers, but putting a yellow ribbon on the back of your $50,000 SUV is not sacrifice. Our claim to fame is living way beyond our means for the last three decades, to the point where we have virtually bankrupted our capitalist system. Baby Boomers have been occupying the White House for the last sixteen years. The majority of Congress is Baby Boomers. The CEOs and top executives of Wall Street firms are Baby Boomers. The media is dominated by Baby Boom executives and on-air stars.
