FDA: Possible Risk From Dental Fillings

To Settle Lawsuit, FDA Now Says Mercury From Fillings Might Pose Risk to Some

By

WebMD Health News

June 5, 2008 -- Mercury from amalgam dental fillings may be toxic to
children and developing fetuses, the FDA now admits.

On its web site, the FDA has dropped much of its reassuring language about
dental amalgam. And it's added what amounts to a warning: "Dental amalgams
contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of
developing children and fetuses."

And there's more. "Pregnant women and persons who
may have a health condition that makes them more sensitive to mercury exposure,
including individuals with existing high levels of mercury bioburden, should
not avoid seeking dental care, but should discuss
options with their health practitioner," the FDA web site now says.

And the federal agency
also agreed to rule -- within one year --

Cheney: Senator desrves the F word.

Cheney, first name is Dick. Is this guy losing it or what? I hear he is under indictment. Not that anything will come of it, will it now?

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Vice President Dick Cheney told Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday that Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, deserved it when he launched the f-word at the senator back in 2004.

When asked if he had any second thoughts or embarrassment, Cheney shot back, "No. I thought he merited it at the time" and then laughed.

The encounter during the 2004 presidential campaign, sources said then, was brought on by Leahy's criticism of the vice president over Halliburton Co. Cheney is the former chief executive officer of the oil field services company, and Democrats had suggested he helped win lucrative contracts for his former firm while serving in the Bush administration.

"It was partly that, it was partly also … it had to do with — he is the kind of individual who will make those kinds of charges and then come act as though he's your best friend, and I expressed in no uncertain terms my views of his conduct and walked away," Cheney said at the time.

Bush Dodges Shoes on Visit to Iraq

"Son of a shoe"...you can't make this stuff up folks!

Bush Dodges Shoes on Visit to Iraq
clipped from www.nytimes.com

BAGHDAD — Calling someone the “son of a shoe” is one of the worst insults in Iraq. But the lowly shoe and the Iraqi who threw both of his at President Bush, with widely admired aim, were embraced around the Arab world on Monday as symbols of rage at a still unpopular war.

In Saudi Arabia, a newspaper reported that a man had offered $10 million to buy just one of what has almost certainly become the world’s most famous pair of black dress shoes.

A daughter of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the Libyan leader, reportedly awarded the shoe thrower, Muntader al-Zaidi, a 29-year-old journalist, a medal of courage.

In the Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City, people calling for an immediate American withdrawal removed their footwear and placed the shoes and sandals at the end of long poles, waving them high in the air. And in the southern Iraqi city of Najaf, people threw their shoes at a passing American convoy.

Dental Amalgam dangers recognized by A.D.A.

Next on the Agenda(for me), clean up of root canals.
From IAOMT:

WE WIN!!! FDA Must Classify Amalgam!

On June 3, Charlie Brown, chief counsel of Consumers for Dental Choice sent this announcement. It's a great historic victory, but the fight to ban dental mercury now proceeds to the next stage -- getting the FDA to classify it in Class III. This makes it all the more important for us all to submit comments to the FDA docket.
We Win -- FDA Must Classify Mercury Fillings

Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetus.

Perfect? No. A 180-degree reversal from FDA's 30-year policy of protecting mercury fillings? Absolutely.

Palin's "Real America" County Embraces Obama

59-41 Obama

Thanks to Palin, it's working!

County Where Palin Hailed "Real America" Voted Overwhelmingly For Obama

Remember Guilford County, North Carolina, the place where Sarah Palin said she was happy to be in "Real America"?

Well, the North Carolina numbers are now all in, and guess what: Obama won this "Real American" county -- by a landslide.

Yep -- Guilford County voted 59%-41% for Obama.

In Palin's defense, maybe her "Real America" line didn't refer to this specific municipality, but was generally referring to North Carolina as a whole. Oh, wait...

Fox News brainwashes viewers, Wins Election Week

Fox viewers have an endless stream of entertainment that appeal to simpletons. Yes, one can enjoy The Simpsons, Family Guy, as well as Bill Oreilly, Hannitty and Colmes and endless stream of mind numbing talking heads without leaving the network. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Fox News Wins Election Week, #1 Network In All Of Cable

CNN may have won election night, but Fox News retained the most viewers, winning Election Week and taking the #1 spot in primetime among all cable networks for the week.

Fox News averaged 3.5 million viewers in primetime for the week, compared to CNN's 3.3 million (#2 in cable) and MSNBC's 2.2 million (#5 in cable).
Perhaps most telling, especially as the election ratings bubble begins to pop, is the viewer retention statistics. According to Nielsen, Fox News retained 48% of its Election Day audience for the remainder of the week (Wednesday-Friday), while MSNBC retained 38% and CNN retained just 29%

CNN won Election Night with a primetime average of 12.3 million viewers to Fox News' 9.0 million and MSNBC's 5.9 million.

Palin's Right wing rhetoric incites death threats : They call it treason.

No apology forthcoming from McCain or Palin for questioning patriotism of Obama, provoking a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed
Yet 64% of Republicans say Palin is their top choice for the GOP 2012 presidential nominee! ...and they wonder how/why they lost!

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues
Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain
That claim is part of a campaign of targeted leaks designed to torpedo her ambitions, with claims that she did not know that Africawas a continent rather than a country

Podesta promises 'strictest' ethics rules

Podesta promises 'strictest' ethics rules

President-elect Barack Obama did not employ lobbyists on his campaign, but they can assist with his transition as long as they de-register as lobbyists and their activities do not cross into policy areas they have tried to influence.

Carrying over the anti-lobbying tenets that defined the campaign, Obama transition chief John Podesta announced Tuesday that the president-elect would enforce what he called “the strictest, the most far-reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history.”

There is no blanket ban on lobbyists, but they will not be able to do transition work in their area of expertise if they lobbied in the past 12 months, nor can they lobby the administration for 12 months afterward on matters on which they worked during the transition.

As for the composition of the Cabinet, Podesta said Obama will make more than “token-level” appointments of Republicans and independents.

Fox News Cut Out From Questions At Obama's First Press Conference

Fox News, a.k.a. the neo con (neo-conservative, not really conservative but with liberal roots and fascist ideology) network no doubt were deemed to disruptive; even for Murdoch! Should be renamed the "Country Last" network! Ha ha ha!

Fox News Cut Out From Questions At Obama's First Press Conference

President-Elect Barack Obama held his first press conference yesterday, one that focused mainly on the current economic crisis. One detail that flew under the radar, however, was which networks and newpapers got to ask questions, or, rather, which one didn't get to ask a question. As Media Bistro notes, one network who was not called upon sticks out: Fox News.

interesting to see how the conservative network adjusts to a political reality in which the Democratic Party holds the White House and substantial majorities in both houses of Congress. Michael Wolff, a Vanity Fair columnist who is writing an authorized biography on Rupert Murdoch's career and family, claims that even Murdoch is embarrassed by Fox News:

Right-wing media feeds its post-election anger

Sean Hannity, on the other hand, insisted on feigning a post-election detente, telling his Fox News television audience last week, "I want Barack Obama to succeed."
Didn't he think anyone would notice that, just a moment later, he was back parroting the failed campaign argument that Obama is a "mystery"?

"I fear [this] is the guy that has these radical associations 20 years ago," Hannity added, an odd way of demonstrating support for the new commander in chief.

"The Obama recession is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen," Limbaugh told his radio audience of 15 million to 20 million on Thursday. "Stocks are dying, which is a precursor of things to come. This is an Obama recession. Might turn into a depression."
But many on the losing end of last week's election want to hold on to their anger.
Limbaugh launched in with a certain relish. "The game," he told his radio listeners, "has begun."

This American Moment — The Surprises

On Tuesday night, Obama reached out to the other half. For those who did not vote for him, he said, “I will be your president, too.”

What an idea — simple and obvious. But like so much American common sense, it’s been missing for too long.

This American Moment — The Surprises

Guess who won Joe the Plumber’s vote. Not Joe the symbol and unlicensed tax-dodger coming soon to a garage sale near you, but real people who make about $42,000 a year, the median income for plumbers and pipefitters.

Barack Obama carried hard-working Americans of that income stripe by 10 points, according to exit polls.

And the only voters who were told directly that their taxes would go up under a new Democratic president? Obama took the rich as well, winning by six points that small sliver of the electorate that makes more than $200,000 year. Soak ’em.

One of the better lines in Obama’s election night speech was a slap to the rejectionist politics of Bush. Rove always insisted a president only needed 50 percent plus one to win. And Bush governed that way, permanently angering half the population.

On Tuesday night, Obama reached out to the other half. For those who did not vote for him, he said, “I will be your president, too.”

What an idea — simple

Your iBrain: How Technology Changes the Way We Think

Because of the current technological revolution, our brains are evolving right now—at a speed like never before.

New pathways being created and old ones discarded. This applies to young and old doing internet searches, for example.
clipped from www.sciam.com
The brain’s plasticity—its ability to change in response to stimuli from the environment—is well known. What has been less appreciated is how the expanding use of technology is shaping neural processing.
Young people are exposed to digital stimulation for several hours every day, and many older adults are not far behind.
Even using a computer for Web searches for just an hour a day changes the way the brain processes information. A constant barrage of e-contacts is both stimulating—sharpening certain cognitive skills—and draining, studies show.
The current explosion of digital technology not only is changing the way we live and communicate but also is rapidly and profoundly altering our brains.
Daily exposure to high technology—computers, smart phones, video games, search engines such as Google and Yahoo—stimulates brain cell alteration and neurotransmitter release, gradually strengthening new neural pathways in our brains while weakening old ones

Obama Picks High-Tech and Washington Veteran to Transition Team

Obama getting to work with high tech jobs concept- already! We picked the right guy for the job.

A veteran of Internet business operations and Washington tech policy was named to President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, a move that could signal the prominence of high-tech policy in the new administration.

Julius Genachowski, a former executive of Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp, will help Obama choose members of his new administration, according to Obama's transition headquarters in Chicago.

Genachowski, who served at the Federal Communications Commission as chief counsel to former Democratic Chairman Reed Hundt, has been advising Obama's campaign on tech policy issues and chaired a group of advisors on the president-elect's Tech & Innovation Plan.

With a relationship with Obama that goes back to their days at Harvard Law School, Genachowski helped push technology issues to a more prominent spot in the campaign, according to analysts and high-tech lobbyists.

Businesses should learn from MyBarackObama

If you are in business and do not have a interactive communications strategy - you will be left behind...

obama, social networking

Obama Election Ushering In First Internet Presidency

Pioneering use of Web 2.0 and social-networking technologies by the president-elect's campaign has seemingly transformed politics, and could influence government as well.
perhaps a bigger change over the long term was the crowning of the Internet as the king of all political media. It was the end of the era of television presidency that started with JFK, and the beginning of the Internet presidency.
The Obama administration is expected to build on a foundation of grassroots support in his private social network, on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
"MyBarackObama was very much a key place,"

Obama's Internet candidacy should be a lesson for business as well, said Trippi, who does both political and business consulting on the use of the Internet. "You have to change your whole way of thinking," he said. "You're going to lose control of your brand to a large degree, unless you create networks to change your brand."

Prank Call to Sarah Palin

"Nailin' Paylin," very funny , must see!
clipped from www.youtube.com

MONTREAL — In an over-the-top accent, one half of a notorious Quebec comedy duo claims to be the president of France as he describes sex with his famous wife, the joy of killing animals and Hustler magazine's latest Sarah Palin porno spoof.

Throughout the call, which was making the rounds in U.S. political circles by day's end Saturday, Palin and the pranksters discuss politics, pundits, and the perils of going hunting with Vice-President Dick Cheney.

"Maybe in eight years," she replies with a nervous chuckle.

Finally, he mentions a notorious Hustler video titled "Nailin' Paylin," describing it as "the documentary they made on your life."

"Oh, good, thank you, yes," Palin replies.

The Masked Avengers, a radio pairing notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state, notched its latest victory Saturday when it released a recording of a six-minute call with Palin, who thought she was talking with Nicolas Sarkozy.
